School of evangelism - Graduated last December 16th, 2016...
The School Of Evangelism (SOE) was the 1st school that YWAM offered in 1969 in Switzerland before the Discipleship Training School was launched. Now the DTS serves as the entrance school and the SOE serves as a secondary school to further train those who want to grow more in their application of evangelistic skills.
The SOE is three months stay-in lecture phase followed by three months of outreach in the Philippines. The 1st 7-Weeks of Lecture Phase will be at the Antipolo Training Center and the 2nd 5-Weeks of Lecture Phase will be at the YWAM Center in Tacloban City before launching out into the Major Outreach Phase from Tacloban City beyond.
The SOE of 2013 served as the Advance Team in the pioneering of the YWAM Center in Tacloban City following Typhoon Yolanda in November 8th, 2013. The SOE arrived on Day 6 to retrieve fatalities and begin distribution of relief and set up a command center for over 900 volunteers that arrived over the course of 12 months.
During the lecture phase of three months we will learn about the motive, message and models of evangelism, how to speak with clarity and power, the theology of and evangelist, mobilization of the church for greater evangelism and missions involvement to all nations and many others.
You will practice your public speaking skills at least 14 times during the Lecture Phase and have a minimum of one day (usually Fridays) for evangelism even during the Lecture Phase. You will pass out thousands of tracts, learn to testify in the open-air and will read 5 books and 57 separate articles on a wide variety of evangelistic and theological issues. The SOE in Antipolo-Tacloban, Philippines is like a "mini-Bible school" because of all of our reading, special videos and meditations.
The SOE seeks to train evangelistic preachers & teachers and pioneer more SOEs globally (there are only 18 SOE's in the world and two of them were started by our fruit: Norway and Nigeria). It has a strong emphasis on open air evangelism, church mobilization and public speaking. We easily total over 400 hrs of evangelism, literature distribution, Cross Carrying, and five book reports as mentioned.
The school leader is Mitch Metzger who has preached in over 27 countries and all 50 States in the USA. He assisted in pioneering the YWAM Center in Tacloban City, the Discipleship Training Weeks in 1996, the SUGE Outdoor Adventure and Leadership Course and authored the book entitled: Harassing Hell: Confronting the Enemies of God.
Mitch, students, and other staff have carried a 12-foot Cross over 4,500 kilometers around the Philippines since 2008 criss-crossing all major island groups. He is a graduate of DTS, SOE, SOFM, Perspectives Course, Berean Bible School and the AoG Extension Course in 1998. Mitch is a former US Marine, turned evangelist and has served in the Philippines since 1988, Mitch is married to a Filipina and has two daughters. One daughter just completed her DTS in Chile with outreach in Spain.
